Republican presidential nominee and Florida Governor Ron DeSantis suggested his party not to focus much on the criminally indicted Donald Trump as he could cost them a victory in the 2024 presidential elections due to his legal troubles.

The 45-year-old said: “I think if we’re re-litigating the past elections if it’s about, you know, Donald Trump, or his legal issues, or criminal trials or all that stuff, you know, I think it’s going to be a really ‘nasty election’.”

Ron DeSantis also noted during an interview with CBS News: “I don’t think that puts Republicans in a good position to win.”

While speaking, DeSantis also responded to the question of the possible violence that may occur if any side loses the election. He hoped that would not be the case.

The governor was also confident that of the GOP win in the elections that are scheduled to be held in November.

The Republican presidential hopeful suggested his party to “frame the issues about the problems facing the country” while highlighting the “failures of the Joe Biden administration to win the election”.

In a warning, however, he was of the view that focusing on Donald Trump could hurt the winning chances of the Republican party.

“So we need to have an election on the issues. You know, we need a candidate that can win a clear-cut victory, and we need to start looking forward as a country,” he noted.

During the interview, CBS News showed that 49% of US citizens expected violence from the losing side as there was already an upheaval on January 6, 2021, in which supporters of the 77-year-old stormed Capitol Hill over the loss of Trump.

DeSantis is much behind the former President Trump in the Republican primary race. The former commander-in-chief has been participating in the presidential debates of the Republican party.

On January 6, an appeal submitted for the review of his disqualification from Colorado was taken up by the US Supreme Court for review.

The US Supreme Court agreed to review the appeal in a case that revolves around a December 19 ruling by the Colorado Supreme Court, which disqualified Trump from the state’s primary ballot under the 14th Amendment of the US Constitution.

The verdict was based on his alleged involvement in the January 6, 2021, Capitol attack by his supporters, citing his engagement in insurrection.
