  • Gohar Khan says they have apprised ECP about PHC order.
  • He says ECP asked PTI to inform where party leaders are targeted.
  • Only SC has authority to revoke party symbol, says Barrister Khan.

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Barrister Gohar Ali Khan on Wednesday said the PTI leaders who announced to dissociate with the party through holding press conferences would not be granted election ticket, The News reported.

“The PTI is adamant in not giving the ones tickets who held a press conference, no matter how many people are involved in this,” Barrister Gohar said talking to media outside the Adiala Jail in Rawalpindi.

Barrister Gohar said PTI founder and former prime minister Imran Khan had instructed the party to gear up for the general elections 2024.

Regarding the Supreme Court order concerning Shah Mahmood Qureshi, the PTI chairman said it was the responsibility of the Election Commission to ensure its implementation. He said the commission had asked the party to submit an application regarding the senior PTI leader and other incidents where party leaders and activists were targeted.

The PTI chief said that they have informed the commission about the Peshawar High Court (PHC) order and urged it to upload the certificate of PTI’s intra-party elections with assurances that the commission will investigate. “If a party’s election symbol is revoked, it is akin to its dissolution, and only the Supreme Court has the authority to do so,” he asserted.

On December 26, PTI Punjab Acting President Hammad Azhar said that it was for party supremo Imran Khan to decide the fate of PTI leaders, who parted ways with the party by holding “press conferences”.

“The majority of those who were forced to hold press conferences wish to return to the party. Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf founder Imran Khan will personally decide on the return of these individuals on a case-to-case basis,” Azhar stated in a tweet.
