As Russia continues to mourn for the people who were killed in a brutal assault on the Crocus City Hall in Moscow, US Senator from the Republican Party Marco Rubio expressed his concerns Sunday about the terrorist incident, warning that this could happen in his own country.
Last week on March 22, at least 137 people were killed and 182 people were wounded when Daesh terrorists stormed a music venue in Krasnogorsk, Moscow Region, according to Tass news agency of Russia.
Authorities have arrested 11 people involved in the attack including four armed men. Vladimir Putin vowed to bring everyone involved to justice, declaring March 24 a national mourning day, it reported.
Marco Rubio told ABC News that because of the withdrawal from Afghanistan, terrorists seized an opportunity to reestablish their operations while expressing concern that the terrorists may be “planning other attacks”.
The Republican from Florida recalled that one of the main criticisms of US President Joe Biden’s rushed exit was that it would give terrorists “operating space to reorganise themselves”.
“Once we leave Afghanistan and we’re no longer there to conduct regular strikes, they can now operate openly. No matter how much the Taliban want to take them on, they can’t. They don’t have the capability to do it,” Rubio told the outlet.
The 52-year-old said that Daesh has now found a place to operate and is likely looking for more.
He also noted that the organisation carried out numerous assaults on Iran and Afghanistan and that it “would love to do what they did in Moscow here inside the US.”
